I truthfully would declare that every plant ordained by God
Is found on every side of the Benedy glen
In the Winter, the delicate branches bear yellow nuts at the top of the wood
Nine hundred on every one of them as they bend toward the bottom of the tree
The Benedy is the glen full of joy where there is a gathering together and playing of strings
Where the young men are not despondent but full of life
Each stately woman with clean, flowing locks sings sweeter than the cuckoo
As they milk the cows at the close of every day in the’ booley’ (milking-place in summer pasturage)
There are raspberries and strawberries and red berries on the top of the branches
The raspberries light up each side of the Glen
The boys come out to lamp the fish in the pool
You can search all of Ireland and you will not find a place that compares to the Benedy!

Nodlaig Ní Bhrollaigh Donegal, Ireland
Nodlaig Ní Bhrollaigh (Brolly), born in 1977, is from Dungiven, County Derry and lives now on the shores of Lough Swilly,
County Donegal. Her debut album entitled, ‘Under a Pale moon’ released in 2004 by Wren Records was in the Top 10 published by the Irish Music Magazine. The new album, ‘Cuimhní Rúnda’, features original pieces that reflect her traditional roots and classical training.
